Humble Choice August 2022: Call for Reviews
Get the Humble Choice bundle? Want to help me review last month's games?
Note: I originally posted this for the July Bundle, but changed it later. Confusing, I know!
A number of my fellow Blaugustines have dabbled in trying to provide a monthly review of the games for the Humble Choice (previously Humble Monthly) bundle over the years, but have found the process of trying to find something to say about all of the games each month a little onerous, to say the least. As Naithin so succinctly put it in his post yesterday, “Humble Choice as a whole seemed to be falling off a cliff in quality, with my excitement for it following closely behind”.
But what helps fight waning enthusiasm? A communal project!
I therefore propose Blaugust Reviews: Humble Choice, where interested Blaugustines pick up a game each to review once they become available each month (note the implication that this will last more than just this month, because a boy can dream), write about it during the month, and then at the end we’ll make a summary page linking them all from one place.
“What kind of reviews do we want?”, I hear you ask, and the answer is “What kind of review do you want to write?” You want to do a detailed dive, a quick first impression, an AAR? Go for it! It doesn’t even have to be strictly a review. You want to try a game (or a genre) you’ve never touched before, or give an in-depth look at a game you’ve played hundreds of hours of? Sounds great! I think it would be just perfect if the Blaugust reviews reflected the great strength that is the diversity of the Blaugust community, where the reader never knows quite what they’re going to get when they follow that link. If we get lots of takers, we might even have multiple reviews for some titles, but let’s try and keep it simple while we’re starting out, huh?

So if you’ve got the bundle, or even if you don’t but you’ve got a burning desire to review one of the games, just sign up here to let me know that you’ve got your eyes on a title and ping me on the discord so that I don’t miss you post when you write it. Take an old favourite, or something out of your comfort zone, and we’ll see if we can’t cover all eight. Just don’t leave me all the horror games, okay?
I'd be interested in writing about emily is away <3 unless somebody else already is. :)
Point the first: I want there to be room for everyone who wants to play, but if you come up short, I covered Legend of Keepers back in April as well.
Point the second: if you continue this going forward, I would be willing to pick up a title each month; I almost always buy the bundle & am generally at least somewhat interested in about half the games.
