I write today while sitting in the car in my driveway, as once again naptime has struck at an unexpected moment [Well, you started in the car, anyway, you’re finishing it at naptime tomorrow, it was that kind of day ~Ed.]
Over the past few months, people have often looked at us and delivered variations on the theme of “Less than two years between them…you poor buggers”. While we appreciate the pity (and any offers of support that happen to come with it), for the most part it feels to us like if you’re going to take a big wedge out of your adulting life to parent small children, you might as well get it out of the way in as concentrated a dose as possible.
But there are some things we do wish we’d managed to work out with Child #1 before Child #2 came along, just to smooth along the process. Chief among them is toilet training, something that seems a long way off right at the moment, but a close second is finding a way to get him to have a nap during the day that isn’t either in the car seat or on his father, as neither are very conducive to getting anything done in what is theoretically the only break that parents get during the day.
We’ve tried different methods to convincing him to sleep in the cot, but to no avail, and at this point I’m pretty sure we’ve just given up the fight in favour of just waiting it out until he doesn’t need a daytime nap any more.
Will we come to regret this when we have two of them to juggle come this time next week? Undoubtedly. But for now I’ll take solace in the fact that the sleepy cuddles are just too good to pass up [An hour into tomorrow’s naptime, and I have to say I agree wholeheartedly!]
