Today was the long-awaited first day of Dr. Owl’s maternity leave, so we celebrated by having a nice fried breakfast and spending the day together, hoping that this is the first of many such days for the next six months and fearing that it won’t be.
After breakfast and a quiet cuppa, we went down to the local playground to show mum our new-found ladder-climbing skills and to do a couple of dozen circuits. Since it was the middle of a school day we had the playground to ourselves, which is just as well, as the little owlet might be getting the hang of play equipment, but still has major performance anxiety when he thinks other people might be watching him.
We spent the afternoon and evening lazily catching up with a couple of dear friends, with just the occasional touch of light cleaning up in the nursery, just so we could pretend we were ticking things off of our lists, and a lot of reading the same three books. Note to self: hide We’re Going on a Bear Hunt tonight. It’s a better book than many, but we’ve definitely exhausted our quota of squelch squelch squelch for the week.
